Does OBDCII Scanner / Throttle Position question
 

Hi Friends, I posted this under the multi page thread discussing how to adjust your throttle to 100%. But who knows how long that will take to get a response when it is on page 3.

I'd rather ask this one than just assume so my question is:

If your OBDCII Scanner shows 100% throttle with the pedal floored, is there any chance that things are still in need of cable adjustment to get full throttle?

My car is a 1998, I may recall that TPS technology changed a few years later, but I'm sure someone will point that out if pertinent.

What do you think? If the scanner shows 100% is there any reason to mechanically check it?

Unless you have a real cheapo OBDII reader, there should be no reason to physically check it. If you over tighten the throttle cable, you will ruin the the TPS over time. The engine moves, and the body doesn't....get my drift??.....Mike

I assume that the engine was not running. If it were the max RPM would be limited to 3000. Throttle 100% reading is probably the PPS at 100%. Pedal Position Sensor.
The throttle is opened by the Throttle Motor controlled by the ECM. The TPS then signals the throttle position to the ECM.
To recap.
The throttle pedal is pressed and the PPS signals the ECM.
The ECM powers the throttle motor.
The TPS tells the ECM how far the throttle is open.
This is my understanding of the system.

Everything is correct, except our throttle is still manually opened by a cable, during limp home mode, where it is only opened to 30% and the TPS tells the ECM how far the throttle is open. Sorry for my misinformation.....I do not know what I was thinking......Be cool....Mike

Don't say that. You are going to scare him. As long as he doesn't think he bought a race car, and drives like a normal human being, things will be fine.
