Door glass body seal / drip moulding corrosion repair?
Hello
With all other parts of the car currently behaving!?
I thought I would try and pay some attention to the body door trim, where the door glass seals, as it has some bubbling/corrosion going on under the rubber. See pic.
Having done some searching it appears this trim (manual calls it a drip moulding) fixes in place by 10 or so screws, under the main door seal ?
But, here in the UK, they are in short supply/ not available.
I have not been able to search/find any repair details!
Has any member had this problem and managed to take them off, successfully refurbish and refit them ?
This problems seems to be worse on certain years, maybe 2003/2004 parts supplier.

Hi Stumpy, how are things in Devon? A bit rainy here this morning in So Florida, so it sort of reminds me of being London. Any way, I had the same thing happen on my 97 Coupe and the only solution I had was to replace the trim. I brought it to a local body shop and they did the work without any problem. This was three years ago. I don't know if or why they are not available anymore as 2000 Coupe doesn't have the problem.....yet. Maybe I better start looking for replacements now. Wish I had better advice but with the parts available I didn't even bother to try to fix them

This looks similar to the Waist Rail problem. The Rails are the same material and finish process. The paint on them bubbles like your Drip Moulding. With the Waist Rail, it's due to poor priming by the supplier. Got to be the same with the Drip Moulding.
Check this thread by Keith Westra:

Keith refinished his Dorchester Gray Waist Rails and I then did my Satin Black ones. Nearly a year later mine are still unmarked.
When I took the Rails off, I was expecting the worst but the metal cleans up very easily. A quality Etch Primer then makes sure the problem doesn't come back.

Hi Stumpy, Hope the weather is better in Devon than Manchester as I will be in Kingsbridge for the next 3 weeks or so?
I have to ask, did you ever find a rubber molding to replace the rubbish fitted by Jaguar. My 2004 XKR (19000 mls) has the same problem on both doors and I am going to check with rubber trim suppliers to see if any of them have a similar profile.
Regards
