ECM headache

Hi all, removed the ECM and center gauge display to replace light bulbs; now the fuel gauge doesn't work (but the temp gauge does work), also have messages "oil pressure low", "coolant level low" (both levels are fine); plus the oil and battery indicators don't work now; Are these the gremlins I have heard about in these XK8s? Any resolution ideas would be greatly appreciated! 2004 XK8

Hi there
I would suggest that you disconnect the battery and doublecheck your connections to the Intrument clusters, make sure the contacts has a proper fit, Any doubt, remove them, check, and reinstall properly.
Make sure the battery is good... if its weak and you have been on ony batterypower for a little to long it might cause the quite "moduleheavvy" XK do drain the battery a tad to much.. but it can, as discussed/mentioned quite some times here on the forum, be enough to cause indication havoc..

Its not likely that the car just sit for a day or two for minor maintenance task and break down..

A lot going on here, but question… why did you remove the ecm and were any repairs done to it? Also, were the replacement light bulbs for the dash cheap led bulbs from amazon? Lots of problems with those. And it kinda sounds like a plug or two was not clipped in well enough or came loose on reinstall. And like stated already the battery should be up to par. Have you tried a hard reset?

You might try putting your old bulbs back. If the gauges work, it would suggest the new bulbs are the problem.

It’s good practice to disconnect the battery before working on the instrument panel. Yes, people have left the battery hooked up without any trouble. But it’s a situation of better safe than sorry.

2nd the motion to check the connectors for a solid connection and no bent pins. I got the pins bent on the ABS module and was seriously sweating when trying to straighten them out. How I managed that without snapping a few off is in the miracle category.
