Default exhaust bypass valves fitted and on way to pickup the car

So after much research and internal debating I decided on electric exhaust cut out valves instead of modified exhaust.

Over this side of the pond it's much harder to get the cutout valves and I had to import them from the states I opted for the badlanz low profile kit once I'd found an exhaust specialist who'd fit them (not many about in London)

Just spoke to mechanic and he had to modify the fitting joint but says it seals and sounds great. Can't wait.

Then off to have my indie fit the new latch hoses before I leave on Friday to go to Spa to see the F1.

On which model? X100 I hope!
At what part of the exhaust did you fit them, have you made any other exhaust mods, etc, etc!
Do tell please - I like the sound of an exhaust bypass very much!

Ok, so just got back from the exhaust guys. OMFG it sounds amazing. I was driving home and was stopped at some lights when a guy stopped next to me and said he loved how it sounded. He compared it to a McLaren SLR he'd heard. He was even more shocked when I pressed the switch to shut the valves and there was silence.

Here's the link to the kit I bought: High Performance Exhaust Kit (Low Profile) – Badlanz High Performance Exhaust

Unfortunately it's raining so not had a chance to look under the car or take pics. I've had no other exhaust mods done. (My previous car was a Porsche 928 GTS with X-pipes and RMB - sounded immense but too much on a long motorway drive)

This sounds even angrier and louder when fully open or quiet as a cat (pardon the pun) when closed.

I'll have to take some video clips when I'm at Spa over the weekend.

Thanks for the link - please post some pics when you get a chance, or let us know where they go (I'm guessing just after the H pipe box?)

~$US300 doesn't seem too bad if they can be fitted without too much hassle.

These have been installed before the centre silencer box, so straight after the downpipes. It's seriously loud....can't wait to do some tunnel runs with the roof down.

There's an excellent write up on this forum somewhere.

So drove it this morning to Jagspares to replace my latch hoses.

Couldn't stop grinning the whole way.

Sounds interesting but below 3,000 rpm you need the backpressure to have normal low end torque. Several of us with the 4.0 liter sc motor notice major loss of that with no pipes and straight pipes only. However, by 4000 rpm having those open makes takes the engine from boring to exciting with a noticeable extra bump in power and glorious sound.

So, is it economically viable to get the cut outs to automatically open above 3,000? That would be great. best of both worlds.!

I have been experimenting a bit with a Raspberry Pi computer and an OBD2 library, this way I can read the RPM from the ECU. The Raspberry Pi has GPIO, which could be used to control a relay or (what would be really nice) a variable opening of the valve.

Does this kit support a variable valve opening, or is it strictly on/off?

Hi all,

I'll try to take some video tomorrow but I'm currently at Spa Francorchamps watching the F1.

Firstly to answer a few questions. The valve is variable but is recommended to switch on for 3 seconds and then flick it a couple of times. Not sure if you could programme it or not.

There is a definite decrease if torque low down but not that big of a deal especially if you're just cruising around.

I've had a lot of very positive comments at the Grand Prix so far and the grin factor is superb.

I did wonder if putting them after the centre silencer would reduce the torque decrease or not. Any ideas?

I'd like to hear what they sound like after/between the X box and the second mufflers.i think it would sound better and have better low end torque.

Best mod I have ever done to any car, period. Goes from luxury car quiet to race car loud and anything in between in about 3 seconds.

Where you put them really doesn't matter, its how much you open them. Crack them and they sound like aggressive factory exhaust, a bit more and they sound like aftermarket, open all the way for full fun and grins. They are operated by a momentary contact toggle so the options are endless.

"Low end torque?" Please, this mod is about fun and flexibility, not performance.

I love mine, been on my car two years now with no problems.

Ok understood. Not after more performance just like the sound. It would be really cool to have them open under full throttle in sport mode. Kind of like the F type.

I can open them under full throttle in sport mode any time I want to, lol! I put the switch where the ashtray used to be in the console.

I can also close them when I am cruising the highway, no "droning," or when I attract too much "attention."

Really, the videos don't do this mod justice, the sounds you can get are only limited by how fast you can be on the toggle. BTW, mine (by DMH) didn't come with the 3 second open instruction, so I blip them open a 1/4 second or so at time until I get the sound I want.

Glorious sound! I have a pair of badlanz ordered. I was going to put them after the center box, but after looking under the car there's less room than I thought. Plus your sound badddddddd ***! How could I not do the same?!
Would appreciate a picture if you can. Also anyone know how to route the electrics to the center console from underneath?
