Hey I have a factory Motorola phone in the center console but it is not a flip phone.

I have a Razor V3 flip phone I love but am not keen to bluetooth connect it to the car because I am don't like the way they over ride the Radio and the Nav System plus they the car phone is harder to ignore than the pocket phone...just me....but I figure phones are like front doors...you don't have to answer them just because some one knocks on them.

Jaguar have staggered through four generations of phone installations:

1. Motorola StarTAC 130 (black flip phone with Jaguar specific software installed)
2. Motorola M8989 Dual Band (probably the one you and Al have)
3. Motorola bluetooth (silver flip phone - can't recall the model number)
4. Bluetooth for "approved" phones

I've seen several different handsets Dealer installed in pre-bluetooth cars and these have generally been a variation on (2) above.

Can't see why you're worrying about the phone over riding the Audio and Nav when you haven't given anyone the number!

After my post yesterday I started googling around and I think I found that the kit (or maybe it was just one of the components) was $895!?!?!?

I think this is something that I can forgo.

Prices shown are in USD so a minimum of $1962 plus fixings. My copy of the parts catalogue is about four years old and prices will have taken a jump since then.

 

I can make up plug-and-play cables for any of the popular Parrot or Motorola aftermarket Bluetooth units on the XK8 or XKR.

This will cost a small fraction of the factory option.

Details and cost will vary based on model year, which equipment is chosen and if you want just phone or phone and music via Bluetooth.

Thanks everyone but I was really just curious to see what the factory system looked like and how much it cost. I have an aftermarket JVC system with Bluetooth and a built in microphone that I think looks much nicer than the factory system. I will be installing the JVC system shortly.

The reason I was wondering about the factory system is that I have a 2002 X-Type, in addition to my 2002 XKR. The X-Type has very nice factory installed microphones that are integrated into interior light console on the roof between the sun visors and I was wondering if there was a similar Jaguar part for the XKR. However, the factory system for the XKR looks more "aftermarket" than my actual aftermarket system.

Thanks GGG for saving me on the microphone.I had a friend complete with camera take my photos,so couldn't help mark with quick photo.Will have to get camera and learn to post quick pics any tips?

GGG thanks for Bluetooth info.
I put my vin into the web page and it came up with the installation guide so I guess I should have BT capability. I note you used ##1#*# but jag says ##3#*#.
Anyhow using either code, with a Sim card in I get " invalid command" and with no card I get "emergency call only" how I could use the car phone in an emergency with no Sim beats me!
I cannot get to the discover me page.
I have long slim Motorola phone.
Could you explain a little more how you got BT to work?

Hi malbec I have'nt back tracked all the threads so might be off track here,but I have the same phone as you I put in a Orange pay as you go SIM and it worked first time.

Sorry for the delayed reply - I've been away over New Year without an internet connection.

Are you up and running with BlueTooth yet or still having problems connecting? If so, I can try pairing mine again to a different phone and note step-by-step details of the sequence and displayed messages.

No not having any luck with Bluetooth. Did you remove the handset in order to get to discovery mode? If not was the sim in or out? Do you have a touch screen on the car unit? No touchscreen on mine but it should not matter.
The problem I have is getting to Discovery mode, I'll worry about pairing once I'm there !

Are you certain that you have factory Bluetooth? I do not believe that Bluetooth was an option untill MY 2005.

My xkr is 2005MY, doing the search as posted by GGG it would seem that I have Bluetooth. I just can't get to the Discover Me stage.
Could be that even though the Jaguar site says I have it, it may not in fact be fitted.
As Mark says its just the later models that may have this option fitted.
I'm just trying to find out the exact procedure to get to the Discover me stage.

I don't have a touchscreen and, as you say, it doesn't matter as the setup messages show on the Radio/CD display.

I assumed that when entering a VIN on Jaguar’s Bluetooth site, it would then validate the number to confirm the car actually had bluetooth components installed from the factory. However, you can enter any 6-digit combination and it proceeds through to the phone handset selection page (I’ve just tried VIN = B12345 which isn't even in the XK8 VIN range and this was accepted). This means the only way to be certain you have Bluetooth installed is by getting the original spec from the Dealer or checking for the components under the centre console. The microphone next to the roof console is also fitted to non-bluetooth installations (ALAG has this on his 2002 XKR) so it’s not a sure indication.


You asked “Did you remove the handset in order to get to discovery mode?”. What make and model of phone are you trying to pair?

Extremely unlikely on a 2003. The usual phone option for your Model Year was a Jaguar branded Motorola fitted in the cubby box.
