Default got an (almost) free XK8 - but no wheel key

Today I pulled up my drivers seat in hopes of locating the locking lug nut remover tool. unfortunately it's not to be found anywhere within the (recently purchased) car, and the PO has no clue either. What I DID find, however, was $8.85 in change, a pocket knife, and a few breath mints and golf tees. just about enough to pay for the car.

I purchased a tool set (2) from O-reilly's that was suppose to remove the locking lug nut. unfortunately one is too big and the other is too small to grip the lock to remove it. anyone have any ideas on how to get the dang things off?

Thanks,
Russ

Check with the larger tire retailers in your area - they often have a "larger assortment" of the necessary tool in their shop. Worth a try

Easy to do; go to any muffler shop and have them rosette (also called plug) weld a large hex nut (preferably one of the same size as the rest of the nuts) on top of the locking nut. If you're charged anything over $5, you're getting ripped off. Or, buy a welder (everyone should have a welder anyway) and do it yourself for about $0.10

What a great idea! I'd never have thought of that.

And after they've put the fire out can I have the ECM?

By the way - we call them wheelnuts (makes sense), but why do you call them lugnuts?

Because we normally take them off with a "lug wrench"!

Default Where is the lug (un) locking tool supposed to be stored?

I think this belongs in the same thread. I am about to take my car in for a ball joint replacement and I just realized I can't locate the unlocking tool either. Where should it be, if it is stored correctly?

Thanks!

I love that answer!

(Even though it still seems odd.)

Because the lug nut goes on the wheel lug and is removed by the lug wrench.

What do you folks in the Old Country call it:
The wheel nut goes on the wheel ?? And is removed by the wheel spanner .

In Coventry when they build a Jaguar, they fit 5 Studs to each Hub. A wheel is then secured to it with 5 Wheel Nuts which are tightened with a Wheel Brace and finally torqued.

The only time Lugs are used is to listen for instructions:

Surprisingly we have very little trouble with Wheel Nuts but US members appear to have endless problems with their Lugs.

Look for the locking wheel nut cover extractor and the locking wheel nut in the jacking equipment & tools tray which is underneath the spare tyre in the boot.

Cee Jays actually right any good welder can do this procedure with no damage to your wheel but you won't find many professional shops that will do it for $5.00.

We just find it easier to call things correctly to begin with, rather than having to explain what we mean later.

I previously searched the tool storage area under the spare, as well as the various storage bins around the interior of the car, to no avail. under the seat was my last hope of finding it.
I did actually try welding on a nut, however the car was on the floor and I don't get down there that easily anymore, so my effort may not have been up to par. the weld pulled a chunk out of the nut, but didn't remove it. I may put the car up on my lift later so I can get it up to a better working height for this old fart and try again.
