Newbie - Purchase Advice
Hello! Just registered and I'm looking at a '99 XK8 convertible with 42k miles. I'm a 'car guy' and have owned many sports/exotics over the years. Would appreciate some tips or other input before I make the jump. The dealer is asking 15 large but, with the economy and the holidays just around the corner, I'm thinkin' I might be able to pick it up for about 12.

If you even pay $12K you paid too much. I regularly see 99's on Craigslist with similar mileage for $10k or less. Look on cars.com to see how much people are asking around the country. Plus, it's wintertime, convertible aren't in demand. Especially in Seattle. Then, if he can't show you proof that the tensioners have been replaced, that's another $2K or so you need to budget unless you can change them yourself.

If you can afford to travel, LOOK outside of your area also. That dealer is asking RETAIL. These cars are real cheap on Clist or the same. The economy is dead, thanks Obama, people need cash and are selling these cheap. Look around don't buy the first one you find. Next look for one with a maint paper trail. I would shy away from one with no history if you can.
