Headlight mounting HID/Xenon versus Halogen
2003-2005 XKR
I have changed the headlamps on XKs before but not the HID type.
Do they mount differently? I recall two bolts visible from the top and one that you loosen near the radiator support to slide the unit forward and out but on the HID, I see only one bolt on the top and the bolt you loosen to slide it out but it gets loose but will not come out
Thanks for any help

There’s a bolt on the bottom accessible from the wheel well.
Thanks
Do you have to take the plastic inner fender off or can you access it through that access cover on he front of the inner fender?
Do the non-HID headlights attach the same way or am I remembering incorrectly.

I have a 2005 XK8S with xenon headlamps. I took the nearside unit out to replace the washer assembly. I started by removing the wheel arch liner only to find that there was no bolt underneath the headlamp unit. Removal was therefore straightforward. I just released the side mounting by the radiator and the top mounting and the unit came out. There were only 2 fixings.

I have had to use JB-Weld on mine to attach that brass bolt sleeve twice already.

Well, there was no sign of anything broken off, but in any event the headlight is firmly fixed and gives no issues.

Well, we have once again proven that my memory is fallible. I looked at a headlight assembly that I had taken out of a car years ago and there is indeed a place for the bottom bolt. Whether it was installed on that unit when I took it out is another question.
Thanks
Thanks
Well, aas @giandanielxk8 stated, they do mount the same. The one i changed years ago obviously had the bottom bolt housing broken so I never noticed.
All that being said, I found that i could get to the bottom bolt with a long extension. You can see it from the bottom if you know where to look but it is no easy task.
I tried the access panel in the inner fender but I could not get to it that way.
Thanks
