Help with installing BBS 20'' chrome trim ring
 

I'm currently changing a damaged chrome trim ring on a 20'' Detroit BBS rim. No issues with removing bolts once a little heat was applied.

However, the replacement stainless polished trim ring does not seem to fit. Its almost as if it was a tad too big - when I press down all around the sides it always seems to pop up in a spot. I purchased on ebay from what appears to be a reputable buyer. I've played around with applying heat, and even thought about bolting down the center rim piece, gradually, until the ring would pop in, but the bolts aren't long enough. Any ideas? Has anyone changed their own chrome trim ring and encountered this? Cheers

I would send it back.... Applying heat will just make it expand and be even more problematic, IMO the ring is too big and a replacement is needed

I'm also a bit confused about the hollow bolt - does that replace the traditional valve stem on the 20'' bbs rim? Currently, the bolt is hollow so air would of course escape when tires are mounted - how do I remedy this, a shrader valve?

That bolt has a valve screwed into it once the main body of the valve is screwed into the drum holding the inner centre in place.... ONE OF THESE

As far as I know an ordinary tyre valve will not fit/work

BBS rim trim change has been a success! Turns out the trim needed just a bit more prep to seat correctly; some of the old sealant used as glue to hold it in place was still on, once removed and cleaned spotless the trim seated relatively easily with the persuasion of a rubber mallet.

Rest of the trim rings had only slight scratches, which polished out easily with a metal polishing compound on an electric drill buffer. One rim had slight curb rash which I used a metal file on and decreasing grits of sandpaper, followed by a metal polish. Pictures will be posted soon.

Thanks XKRacer, looks like the hollow bolts didn't have the shrader valves screwed in.

Now I just have to find the special BBS wheel air fill tool!
