History of XK8 Burberry Edition
I have always wanted to own a Jaguar and I just bought a 2001 XK8 Convertible Burberry Edition with 18,250 miles. It is in pristine condition. I googled it and couldn't find out much about the History. i was curious as to what the History is of this edition. Was it a one time only product or a continuing edition? Any information would be appreciated.

It's not a factory edition. It could possibly be a dealer package, but most likely a previous owner customized it. Post some pictures of it. Whether it is worth more, is simply whether you can find someone who is willing to pay more for what has been done to it. There are a few special editions that are worth more, such as Silverstone Editions, and XKR-100s, and there are some that aren't really worth anything more (Neiman Marcos edition anyone?) so it is unlikely yours will be worth much more than a stock vehicle, but you never know what someone might want. Hopefully you didn't pay significantly more than a normal XK8, unless you really like the changes.

Nigel Thorley's book on the XK8 has a photo of a Burberry edition. I don't have the book with me, so I don't remember if he said much about it. I only noticed it because I was thinking how much my daughter-in-law would love to own one to match her hats and boots. I had the impression that it was a factory job, but could be wrong.

Mike, you are correct. Nigel Thorley show a picture on pg. 68. Here's the quote, "Burberry the clothing manufacturer had previously created special XJ-S cars using their well known materials. An XK8 convertible followed in 1999." So who knows how many were made and was 1999 the only MY.

Nigel Thorley book mentions a few editions by private companies but their not factory editions, Paramount Performance and the Sterling Moss editions are two that comes to mind. I have to agree with Keith The value is in the eyes of the beholder. So get your foot out of your mouth Keith, until somebody else proves us wrong.

I couldn't find anything about the XK8, I did find the XJS near the bottom of this page
The International Jaguar XJ-S Cabriolet Register and some rather tasteful pics of an S Type here Jaguar S-type - Burberry edition - Fashion Forum http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...23_10_full.jpg I think we need to some pics of the XK8. |
Hope the Burberry XK8 also has green Hunter boots instead of the standard black rubber. :D

Wow! Stunning car. They even changed the sill plates. I really like the Burberry additions, except the convertible boot cover, I'd get a standard Cashemere one. I also love the 20" Detroit wheels. Also, British Racing Green, great color ;)

I also noticed that the subwoofers in the rear were covered with the Burberry material---now when is the James Bond version going to surface with the machine gun? I could use that one when going to Atlanta.

That does look very nice. I have never seen one of them before so thank you for sharing!
This has inspired me and now I'm thinking of all the things that cpuld be done. Anyone know how difficult it is to recover the seat inserts or ever had it done? |

What next Parker, picnic tables!

CC - I guess any decent upholstery shop could make you whatever you want....sky's the limit, esp if you're not concerned with resale or are a straight-laced purist snob (like me:icon_headbang:). We've seen some examples posted that are really cool, and some that would make you barf.

Don't forget the umbrella and golf bag. Oh, and fitted luggage........

I think a picnic hamper would be required.
