Hole in trunk - what part is needed?
 

Two days ago I discovered that there is an open hole in my trunk, just above the battery terminal and main fuse see picture below. I guess it is supposed to be plugged by something that has fell off lately. I looked at sngbarratt but was not able to locate a plug for this purpose. Anyone who knows the correct part to fit here and where I can purchase it?

It is a Xkr coupe 2000 year model

You should be able to find a black rubber stopper (shaped like a cork) at your local hardware or home improvement store. They are made in different sizes. Find the appropriate tapered size, place the smaller end into the hole from above, and carefully hammer it down into position. These rubber stoppers are often located in the plumbing department....

You can just put a piece of aluminum tape over the hole.

That's a good idea Bob, if I can find some a couple of inches wide, I'll use that for the headlight access cover in front of my left wheel, while I try to hunt down a used one. Apparently I didn't fasten it well enough last time I was in there. It's long gone....

I thought it may originally have had a metal plug fitted like the ones on the luggage compartment floor but I see from this photo of my 2005 XK8 that it was a circular black self-adhesive piece of tape:

Perhaps a location hole used during manufacture or an additional hole to allow accessory cables to be run to or from the passenger compartment without compromising the rear firewall by drilling.

Like Graham's, mine has a circular piece black adhesive tape, but what Graham couldn't detect from his photo is that underneath the tape is a standard rubber plug. If that unusual combination was put in just to mystify curious owners (why else?), they succeeded with me.

opps looking at the wrong hole! As suggested just buy a rubber bung to close it up.
