Hood unlatched warning - resolved

Out of the clear blue I get the message that the hood is unlatched. Opened and closed it a few times. Disconnected the battery etc. warning persists but hood is really latched. Anyone else had that issue?

Thanks

There could be a language problem here. If you have a convertible the hood refers to the convertible top.

The cover over the engine in the 'bonnet' on a British car.:icon_confused:

Try cycling the convertible top.

Yeah, this happened to me once. I thought it was the bonnet. I stopped the car, made sure it was closed. After a while of driving my girlfriend, at the time, pointed it out to me, that the raptop wasn't fully closed. I pressed the button a little further until it latched and locked. Message was gone. I was embarrassed for a brief moment.

Hmmmmm the ragtop was fully open. I have never gotten that message when the top was open. I will cycle it and see if the message goes away. I never close the top.

Maybe the ragtop wasn't fully open. I've had it happen the other way around when I think it's open and really it could hide just about a few centimeters more.

if the latch does not fully drop down into the header when the top is down, it will show as not latched

Jon89 10-03-2013 11:52 AM

Yep. Lube your latch mechanism. That may resolve your issue. These latches need to be lubed periodically....

Lakeland33813 10-04-2013 07:40 AM

Yup that fixed the issue. I let go of the roof down button before the latch retracted. Considering I am European I should hang my head. :icon_beerchug:

Can honestly say I did the same thing when I first got mine.

Ditto.

Do not feel bad I had the same issue on my 2011 XK. Warning comes on I get nervous drive to dealer right away. They make apt for next am but made sure engine hood latched. I leave go down road stop put top down, take off, warning light goes out. Never another issue. It was the top, or hood, not the bonnet. Oh well, the things a Jaguar owner learns on the road.

Hood unlatched warning - resolved

My 2001 "dings" when the opening or closing cycle is fully complete. I don't let loose the button until it does.
