Default Hood vents from James Bond.

I've come across these hood vents and think I may get them for my car. I've e given up on finding an XKR bonnet so this is the next best thing. It will require cutting holes but since they sit on top of the surface they won't be visible.
I think the stainless steel mesh will match the front grille. Hood vents from James Bond.-image.jpg

Reminds me of a late 60's Formula Firebird.

I've always liked those vents, and the tonneau/roll bars (pre-gattling gun popup). Sadly the tonneau wouldn't possibly fit over a convertible top (without sitting higher and looking ugly.

Here is the best photo I can find without the gun (and it's a model):

I took a screengrab from the movie:

I think I like them. I was actually thinking about having my brother welding a set of fins to fit and loose the mesh.
Any pics on the car? A full shot?

I have some pics on a carnival red XK, the vents were painted Dorchester grey to match the trim, they are in a different position as they were fitted to an 8 so the customer chose...

I will dig the pic out tomorrow

I bet he moved them further up.
I've found them in dark grey color on several cars but I definitely want mine body color if I use them. I'd also have mina gallery make me a set of grille inserts with a finished chrome edge to match my grille I'd I don't make fins.
I'm still on the fence but I want some kind of vents. I had the arden bulges but never really liked them.

I'd kill for those roll bars!! Thought about having my brother make me something similar. Hmmm. I'm feeling a challenge!! I don't think the roll bars would effect the top.

Talking Rain holes???

Yes Phil the blue ones look very good, but I always wonder if the rain would affect the engine/electrics somehow? More of a problem in the U.K, just think its more catered for in the XKR as it designed that way. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable members can comment. Just my opinion the red ones look to high up the bonnet, is this because of rain issues?
Cheers, hope everyone has a happy new year.

The water is my biggest concern as well. I know it can be delt with since some have done it to XK8's.
and I agree, the red are too high. For me.

Lower is better as far as rain goes, however the guy who owns the red XK has never had a problem, they do sit far enough back not to cause an issue, but it was a case of (his words) "I want them here"! So that is what I did, they do not fit 100% as they are not meant for that section of the bonnet.

Personally I want something different so I am going to do what I did to this Aston

I made the tooling to make the grilles so all I have to do is make the openings and if I can do this to a DB I sure as hell can do it to an XK

Default vents

seams to be a lot of interest in us guys that would like to fit these type of vents or the xkr vents to the xk8 without going to the expence of obtaineing a xkr bonnet or cutting out the holes even just for cosmetic looks ,wouldent you have thought someone out there would be able to desine these that just stick flush to the bonnet, need adamesh, paragon, or such to look into this, come on guys get it sorted, I would buy some tomorrow if that was the case

as I see it, the bonnet vents (at least those I see on my car) are shaped such, that the effect is sucking hot air out from bellow the bonnet. I'm afraid vents shaped like this will do the opposite.

The bonnet vents on the Aston look amazing XKRacer great job. I know the job you did on the Red Xk would have been at the request of the customer and not your choice, there was no criticism intended towards you. It just looks wrong to me position wise.
Any way happy new year to everyone.

I took no offence and to be fair to the customer one off his reasons was he wanted to be different, he often achieves that.

And to the answer the comment about the intention of the vents, you are quite right, the purpose is to relieve the heat from the engine, however on a XK8 this us not an issue, where as they will have a functional purpose in one way or another, in this scenario it is a cosmetic/aesthetics thing, well it is in my case

Happy new year
