Hood very hot above front wheels

I noticed by chance that when I put my hand next to the hood, just in front of the front wheels on both driver and passenger sides it's very hot. Even after an hour it's still pretty warm. The rest of the hood is normal temperature. Not sure what's in the wheel well, but before I start pulling things apart, does anyone have an idea why this would be?

I've never checked mine but I know when I park it in the closed garage it will heat up the whole building. I suspect it's just heat migrating from engine bay. As you know the hood or Bonet is insulated and fenders are not.

That's probably it, especially since it's on both sides. I just so hot that you can't keep your hand on it for very long and it's concentrated in that small area. My other cars don't have this discrepancy. Must be the way the air travels under the hood.

Someone on this forum suggested that after a drive, open the hood until it cools down to keep from cooking the heater hose underneath the intake manifold and that's what I have been doing ever since. couldn't hurt unless it wears out the hood latch cable which would be a serious
problem too correct.

The catalytic converters are beside the engine on both sides. IIRC they get to about 1200 degrees F. It's just stupid to put them next to the engine in the engine compartment - in my opinion.

Don't go looking for a problem where one doesn't exist. Engines get hot. Not being sarcastic either. I used to go looking for issues and drive myself crazy. If it's just heat you are worried about, id not be.

Thanks guys, I guess it's just another design 'feature'. Not worried about heat, worried about overheating...

one of the first things I did to my 2002 XKR was to remove the under hood insulation. Several warned me that the paint would get too hot and peel or otherwise degrade. Those comments were nonsensical to me. Millions of cars have been produced without any under hood insulation and I’ve owned a few of the 1960’s - ‘70’s versions myself. No paint issues w/o insulation.


its been over 6.5, nearly 7.0 years and 130,000 miles driving in the hot southwestern USA with no visible paint damage.from the increased heat. And the engine compartment cools
off much better . The engine may be a tad louder, I can’t tell much if any difference in that department.

so if you are concerned about the engine heat, maybe this might work to slightly reduce the engine bay heat somewhat.
