how to drain gas tank 2006 xkr
 

After being away for a couple months my xkr is running as though it has water in the gas, either condensation or separation. I tried to siphon gas but the hose only goes in a foot or so and hits something that prevents it from reaching the tank. Is there a way to drain the tank aside from dropping the tank?

Well, let's think. The fuel filter is underneath the car near the left rear wheel. Given the description I'm going to suggest changing the filter too.

Since your fuel pumps work, why not use it to do the work.

Start car, remove fuel pump relay. Car will stall, fuel pressure is discharged. Remove fuel line to filter. Point it safely into a receptacle, have someone turn car on, collect the bad gas.

If you need to jump the power to the pumps at the relay, someone will tell us. I'm not sure if pumps operate continously with engine off.

I welcome others suggestions on safety for this idea.

Draining until empty using the fuel pump is a bad idea. you're very likely to draw sediment up into the filter with that last little bit of grass you pull up. if you believe you have water in your gas, their are fuel treatments that you can get which are actually water absorbant to a degree.

This reminds me of the shop where I worked when they decided to do this hair brained attempt at emptying the tank on a beautiful xk140. As you may guess after the fire burned down the car and the shop, I had no job.

I drained the tank by using a thinner hose rather than a garden hose. My initial attempt using a garden was unsuccessful much like you as it hit an obstruction about a foot in, but when I used a thinner hose and some wiggling, it went in no problem
