Default I'm replacing the secondary tensioners on my XKR and came across something odd

So far I've pulled the valve cover off the pass. side. After I cleaned up the cover I noticed that one of the bolts was different because it was separated from the sleeve. It's different from all the other bolts. It's a brass color instead of black and does not have a tapered end like all the others. Is this right and if yes, were does it go? My first thought is someone had it apart and lost the correct bolt and put this one in. Also there was a lot of oil in the spark plug chamber closet to the front, less in the others and none in the one closest to the firewall.

The different bolt/spacer is installed nearest the CMPS (Cam Position Sensor) in the cam cover.

Wow, I was sure it was the wrong bolt. Great help, but I don't know where the CMPS is or what it looks like. Of course I know I should have been aware of the bolts as they came out, but I thought the only ones that were different were the ones with the extensions.

CMPS is in the cylinder head at the rear on the inside behind the intake manifold.
I just looked at your post and saw that you have a supercharged.

You will not have a CMPS but that bolt/spacer goes in the rear inside hole (toward the engine valley).

Oil in the spark plug chamber is solved with new cam cover ring seals. I would replace all the seals on the cam covers at this point.

Argh! What happens if the wrong bolt gets put into that hole? Is that particular hole shorter? Will it bottom?

Sorry about the not having a CMPS. You have the CMPS but not the VVT. The bolt is a different material and is near the magnetic CMPS so I guess the material is less interfering with the sensor and reluctor. I have seen hundreds of cars with the bolts in the wrong locations and have never heard of any faults.

Thanks for the info. I just got done working on the drivers side. The bottom back bolt and dipstick bolt was fun. I'm not sure how to release the clip for the hose on the upper front part of the cover, any help would be great, thanks. I noticed that the front upper bolt has the extension on it like the dipstick and fuel rail bolts. But there is a nut or any sign of why it's like that. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the info and picture. No wonder squeezing the clip didn't work. Of course I ended up breaking it, but at least I got it off.
