Important Update: Aging Throttle Body Rebuilds
This may save everybody who has had a throttle body rebuild a lot of grief.
I had my throttle body rebuilt by ASI in 2011. Great job, perfect performance.
Recently I have been chasing a P0507 code for High Idle. Finding nothing unusual in the intake or vacuum systems, I called ASI technical support.
The tech (Will) knew exactly what the issue was. He had me look at the Throttle Position Sensor (on the passenger's side of the throttle body) and sure enough, there is a crack where the epoxy sealant had let go. It's about 1/16" wide and clearly evident IF you know to look for it.
He said they have seen more than a few of these - enough to expect the problem. The TPS is spring loaded and presses against the "cap" of the sensor which they have cut off as part of the rebuild. The sealant they used back then isn't up to the task and heat/vibration causes it to slowly let loose.
I'll remove the TPS and send it to them for a warranty repair.
I'd suggest everyone with a applicable unit check the condition or at least be aware of what the problem could be in case it arises.
Regards,
