Instrument lights not turning on - traction/seat heat/fog/hazard RESOLVED "How To"
I was annoyed that my backlights didn't come on for the traction control, seat heaters, and fog lights. I thought it was too remote that all 7 lamps would burn out.
Problem was in manufacturing the circuit board, the person doing the assembly cuts and bends the leads from a capacitor so that the lead touches the power for the lamps. The lead happened to be grounded, so the lamp power was directly shorted to ground. Normally that blows a fuse, but in this case the copper trace smoked.
I don't want to repeat Gus' great description of how to get to the lamps. Do what he says. Once you get the switch unit out, disassemble it by removing 5 screws in the back. Don't worry, if you get as far as Gus leads you, 5 more screws shouldn't be scary and no springs fly in different directions when you open it up.
Find and fix the broken trace (if you had this problem) and while it's apart, use a 9V transistor radio battery to check your lamps.
I hope this helps someone.
