It's been a long time... Back with a question!

Hey all,

It's been years since I posted in Jaguar Forums (I have a BMW M3 now), but I'm back for a quick question.

My dad has a 1997 XK8 Jag conv.

They keyless car entry opens the trunk but not the doors.

The light inside will turn on but doors won't open or close when using the remote entry key.

What could be the issue here?

Thanks!

First thought is that the unlock button on the fob needs cleaning but you say the lights come on.

A hard reboot of the systems is always an easy place to start. No guarantees but this has fixed things that would have appeared to have no relationship. The next thing to check is the charging/battery system. A stop at a national auto parts store will usually provide a free check.

After that post back and we will guess some more.

Do they lock and unlock from inside? Basically does pushing the handle in lock both doors or just the one side? You should hear a motor cycle and both doors should lock and unlock.

There is a door lock relay on the RH facia fuse box that might be worth checking.

I have to manually lock the passenger's door from the inside and then lock the car with the key from from the outside on the driver's side.

When locking the drivers door from inside the car, the passenger's door does not lock. Never heard any sound when I did anything.

The mechanic wants to buy a new fob. Wants to charge about $250 for fob and programming.

If it's not working from the inside, then a new fob won't fix it.

What should happen is you press the drivers handle in and the passengers should lock as well.

It's either the relay or one of the door modules I would say. Since neither seems to work, smells like the relay, which is common between the two sides.
