1998 Jaguar XK8 - I was having problems selecting drive the select lever had to be coaxed from park into gear.

My Jaguar workshop replaced the gearbox sump the original one was leaking oil and fitted a replacement rotary switch. The oil levels are correct.

Despite several diagnostic checks and some cable adjustment, when moving the gear lever from Park though reverse to Drive and back to Reverse there is a clunk and a warning light shows gearbox fault. If I switch off the ignition and restart the engine the fault is cleared. Other than that the car drives OK through the gears when motoring.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me please ????
