Just bought front bushings/links

Well in efforts to quiet the front end up more I went ahead and just ordered front sway bar bushings and end links. the bushing job looks easy, how hard is it to get off the end links? Do I need to have the front end aligned when I replace the end links?
I figured at 103k these parts could stand replacing.

Hi Tim,

When you say end links I think you mean tie rod end links (?). Rev Sam has a video for this, looks pretty easy but you will need an alignment if I remember correctly. You and I have already spoken about the sway bar links, an easy job. Let us know if you need anything else.

I'd love to hear what kind of difference the bushings make, please post your findings after you're done.

THanks,

Johnm

Oh Ok they are the sway bar links. I hope you have as much improvment as I did. Check out my post a week or 2 ago, I think I listed the wrench/socket sizes you will need.

Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

I read that post.

When replacing sway bar links (anti roll bar) there is no need to do an alignment.
Do make sure both wheels are either on the ground or ramp, or both are off the ground.
IMHO the bushings are causing your rattle, so try doing those first.

As said jack both wheels up and replace the sway bar links, no tension and just bolt off and back on, very easy.

Just read a Technical Bulletin stating that you need to lube the bushing. I'm going to do the swaybar bushings on my car next.

DATE: 08/01 V8 XJ Series/XK MODEL:

Replacement Stabilizer Bar Bushings - Lubricate Before Installing Issue: When replacing stabilizer bar bushings on XK Range and V8 XJ Series vehicles, the specified grease must be applied to the replacement bushings.
Action: When replacing the front or rear stabilizer bar mounting bushings, apply Castrol NTR grease part no. 10558 to the inner face of the bushing.
This action is required to allow free movement of the stabilizer bar within the bushings. Caution: When applying the grease make sure that only the inner face of the bushings is coated with grease. Grease applied to the outer face of the bushings will affect the retention of the bushing by the retaining bracket.
