Leather or not?
 

So can someone tell me whether the seats in my X100 are actually leather or not please? I've read that bits of them probably are but that the back and sides are plastic. It's that true? If so, how do i treat the cracks or do I need to put up with them or get the whole seat re-covered?

Depending on condition, you can use kits to fill the cracks and dye the leather; options like Furniture Clinic, Gliptone and Leatherique. A set of seat covers can be procured from TopsOnline and they are quite nice. I did mine with their stuff and am satisfied, especially for the money.

The seat "faces" (top of the cushion and front of the squab) are leather. Other parts are synthetic.

As you are in the UK, Gliptone and Furniture Clinic both produce repair kits to fill cracks and dye seats. A similar product from Leatherique is popular in the US.

Many members have used kits from the above suppliers and reports suggest they all do the same thing just as well.

Woolite dilution rate of 6:1 with water. I used a Mister Clean Magic Eraser frequently rinsing in a bucket.
The entire interior is cleaned now. I conditioned the seats with Leatherique, rubbing in by hand. I then covered with plastic bags for a few days for better absorption.

The leather has softened considerably. I have a kit from the Furniture Clinic to dye the worn spots. That’s next.

Brilliant info, thanks guys. Mine aren't too bad at the moment but I want to try to keep them that way. I will have a look at the different products and give it a go.

One of the benefits of having a Victory Edition model is the upgraded leather they all received. The car turns 14 years old next month yet the seats still look new. Routine care has been easy - clean and treat with Lexol a couple of times per year. Jaguar certainly got the seats and the paint right on this car....

YES - the Victory Edition (and Final Series for the Rest of the World) benefited from an interior that was better than Jaguar had used on most of the XK8/XKR's. This is the dealers photo of my 2005 XK8 4.2-S Final Series after I'd traded it at nine years old and 85K miles.

I think the biggest contribution to keeping good leather is regular cleaning with a careful choice of product.

I have always done my own leather seats. I doubt that anyone has ever treated seats as bad as this Click Me to Read
But the good thing was that I could not make them any worse! So I gave them a go.

Since upgrading to my Jaguar XKR I have done my seats quite a few times now. As stated above Gliptone and Furniture Clinic do good products.

This is an early attempt at doing my seats. Not perfect but getting there!

I like to think my work has got better since then.
