Found this in the trunk/boot of the car... anyone know what it is? Has a TV and aux input.

There is a page in the electrical schematics for a navigation system with TV tuner. Never even heard of a car that actually had it installed though. Yours might be one of a kind.

Well that's an expensive part, looked at the wiring diagram and it appears it is specific to an antenna amplifier.

You say it has a TV and Aux input, what do the inputs look like? Are they RCA jacks or a plug in harness connectors?

It would be great if anyone know how this works as I cant get it going. Not helped I am sure by the fact the GPS is in Japanese ;-)

Jandreu 10-11-2014 01:41 AM

Well it looks like it's using standard RCA jack inputs, sounder if you could plug a backup camera into it?

akka 10-11-2014 05:21 AM

Cant even figure out how to get it to display. Did notice that it is connected to the parking brake so tomorrow I will have another play.

ccfulton 10-11-2014 07:56 AM

From the wiring and the fact that the parking brake is an input to the TV tuner, I'd wager that the idea is that the car should be stopped and the parking brake set before the display will let you see the TV signal.

Easily bypassed I would think, but to test, you might try setting the park brake and then playing around with it.

On the lower right of the schematic page it confirms that this option was just for the Japanese market.

Both Japan and New Zealand have since ceased broadcasting analog TV, as they and most of the world has transitioned to digital in the last few years, so I doubt you will be picking up any TV signals.

Doubt I can get TV on it, you are correct, but think of the possibilities as I have three fairly standard inputs for video and audio sitting in the trunk of the car... digital TV receivers, DVD, modern nav systems, backing camera, MP3 music inputs....

Anyone aware of any instructions for this system as I can get them translated to English, which is what I spent most of yesterday doing for the nav systems.

Exactly... and all the other options. Could replace the Japanese only navy systems with something for nz without all the messing around.
