Loads of engine faults
 

While out driving tonight my 01 XKR pulled loads of engine faults,Engine MIL and showed Restricted Performance until engine was switched off.Restricted Performance disappeared when i switched it back on.

Heres the codes i had when i arrived home :

P0171,P0174,P0301,P0302,P0303,P0304,P0305,P0306,P0 307,P0308,P1000,P1316

I have already cleared them with reader,but engine is still misfiring on both banks.

Any ideas what the problem could be.

I think the p0302, 0304, 0305, 0306, 0307, 0308 are misfire readings for the cylinders. When was the last time you change the plugs? I remember I had a restricted performance on a cylinder last summer and it was from the coil pack. I had 76k on the original packs. The service writer and folks on this forum suggested changing all the packs since they are subject to ALOT of heat that does not escape from the engine bay. Thermo dynamics on electronic parts, That sounded intelligent. Basically they cook. They are easy to change your self. they are just not very cheap. But i think you can find them for under $100.00 US each. Give it a little time and the rest of the SMART guys will answer you. Heck they may even verify my findings.

A way to check your coil packs is to take the coil pack off of cylinder Number one and three and move them any where else and if the coil packs are bad the codes will appear else where. Should not take very long to move the packs around. Your rescan should appear in a different order with P0301 and P0303 showing up this time. Go to the FAQ's there is a diagram of the cylinder locations. There is also a video on changing spark plugs.

I doubt its the coil packs as its pulling codes on all 8 of them

I had just recently got alot of those same codes, especially the misfires, and I located a cracked rubber fitting on a plastic hose. So I would check hose cracks

Have cured the misfiring and leaning problem today with some new seals on charge aircoolers.

Engine is still very erractic at idle though,runs fine while driving though.I am thinking either sticking acclerator cable or fuel filter blockage

are you still getting lean codes? Did you try a hard reset to 'force' the ECM to start its fuel trims from scratch, especially the long terms, which would still cause higher RPMs on startup until it eventually comes down to match short terms.

Long and short term fuel trims will adapt fairly quickly. All the misfires in the 1st post were obviously caused by a lean condition. P1000 is a result of recent code-clearing. After repairing the vacuum leak you need to clear the codes just to see what reappears, if any. If the idle is still rough I'd continue to look for vacuum leaks, although since the ECU had been dumping as much fuel as possible a plug or two may be whacked.

Surprisingly it wasnt the part load breather pipe leaking,it turns out that a bolt had fallen out of the EGR valve and the gasket had slipped out partly too.The bolt was lying on top of the gearbox housing conveniently.
