low fuel light signal
on the 98 xk8 how much fuel is left when the 'low fuel' indicator light comes on ... the manual says 10 liters = 2.6 gallons ... however the miles to empty seems to indicate only 1 gallon left

The Drivers Handbook states approximately 10 litres.
It also states the 'range' indication is the distance the vehicle should travel calculated assuming average speed and fuel consumption stay constant. Neither of these are absolute statements. There are so many variables concerned that Jaguar have deliberately given a big margin of error on these numbers. I've only once had occasion to study the 'range' reading whilst desperately looking for a service station and can tell you the vehicle was still running twelve miles after it indicated fresh air in the tank! Whatever the range, it is not a good practice because the fuel pump is cooled by fuel immersion.
Since these cars seem to have enough fuel pump problems without added help from the owner .... ;) |

The Supra had a Denso pump that lasted over 20 years and was still going strong when sold.
Running on the yellow was routine and never a real concern. It was good for at least 75km from first flash. Tended to freak out the passengers though :) The Jaguar doesn't get the same level of trust when it comes to the fuel pump ... or many other components :( |
