Lower roof using door key
I have a US model, 1999 XK8. I have lowered the top using the door key while turning to the left and holding before and it worked. Lately, I tried a couple of times, and nothing happens. Regular button inside works fine. Fuse or something else?

Are you turning it hard enough? There is a stop, and then you have to turn it and hold it beyond the stop with extra force.
|
I thought I had done it the same as before. I will try again later.

I would do the window reset procedure, just in case. I have a coupe, what do I know...

Good rule of thumb--anything, ANYTHING odd that starts to happen with your windows (and to your Jaguar, the roof panels are just "additional windows"), park the car in your driveway and follow the Window Reset procedure. It often helps shake the cobwebs out of the car's brain, and often fixes a window misalignment that is so slight you can't see it with your eyes but is enough to confuse the car's sensors. I thought I had a leak in my driver's door every time it rained... until, UGGGGH, I remembered to try Window Reset. ....Leak was eliminated. (I suspect someone perhaps tried to slide my glass down with his hand when the car was parked on the street---you'd be shocked how many "visitors" your car has to resist when you're not there to watch it during the day.) |
Wayne, just in case it doesn't work, please say two things:
Do windows work with key? (They should lower first) Does interior roof button work? when you loop back with us. John |
My original post stated that I had been able to lower roof before (windows came down also). It also said the inside button works fine. I am having roof hydraulic hoses replaced Monday and will check further then.

Good luck!

UPDATE: Just had the top hydraulics replaced. In the process, we found that the fluid levels were very low and the cause was a slow leak in one of the rams. After replacing the hoses, fluid and rams, everything is working great. It now works with door key and inside button.
