Making Navigation work
Forumites,
Most of us, who have Jagīs Navigation system installed canīt really use it and are either converting to the 3 dials set up, or consider some way to replace it. Although I like the look of the 3 dials much better, I found a solution for the Nav system that I want to share with you - take a look: Navigation Itīs not cheap (EUR 545,00 if you send in your old Nav system and EUR 815,00 if you keep it), but installing it, is a 5 Minutes job and I can confirm that it works. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...d51323af54.jpg New Tech, Old Front https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...830edc4b01.jpg Working. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...826a3d5036.jpg Finally, I know, where I am. :) I have used it now for a couple of days and here is my "Review", well more 2 Cents, really :) Positive:
Summary: If you want (only) a working Nav System in your car, that preserves the original look, and is childsplay to install, this might be worth a look. Keep Speed! Berglmir |
How about buttons, are they working? On/Off?

If you leave Navigation ON, it will power down after 15 Sec,, after you have pulled the ignition key. It will then also start as soon as you start the engine. You can also power the Nav up/down manually. |
That's a nice conversion. DIY is also quite straightforward at just the cost of the sat nav unit. All the power connections are present in the original harness, the on/off switch can be made to work using a latching relay from ebay. I used a second hand Garmin Nuvi 5000 from ebay which cost me under Ģ20, which has a slighty bigger screen than the 5" units and also has an input for a wired reverse camera, rather than the crappy wireless Garmin ones. I also re-connected the backlights for the switches to the backlight wire, so they come on with the lights.

When I fitted my Garmin Nuvi 2599 LMT, I first removed the back, took out the speaker and microphone, extended their wiring and mounted them behind new grills where the original switches were. The pictures show the detail of how it all mounted.

I also have a Garmin Bluetooth Reversing camera and don't find it at all bad! Thinking about it, I'd probably charge about $800 to do it all again for someone else! |
Great solutions both and a lot of ingenuity shown.
However, due to my (below) zero talent in regards of car electronics and all sorts of DIY, I just wanted to share a solution for people, who might also be interested in a less than perfect, but super simple plug & play solution. ;) |

Garmin does recommend checking the picture quality before finalising the position of its Bluetooth camera transmitter. Similarly a shielded receiver could reduce quality. Perhaps that was the cause?

That is a beautiful install. How much would you charge to come to warm, sunny, S.W. Fla. in the middle of winter to do an install? Maybe pay me????
I have a 7" Garmin trying to decide if I want to try to install that in the center, or go the 3 gauge route, and do a windshield mount for the Garmin. Windshield wold be a bit tacky, but would be easier to use if done right. Ah, decisions, decisions...... |
