Driving over some railroad tracks the other day a metal noise came thru my dash?? I cannot create the noise in my driveway by bouncing the front end. Recently had the bushings replaced on the swing arms
but drove a couple of days before it started making this noise. Weird thing is it comes thru the dash.
Anybody ever heard of this?
yes - sounds like the upper shock mounts are shot!!! There is a brace that runs from the shock tower toward the windshield. With the shock mount gone, the upper plate is now able to move rubbing against the top of the fender well. This noise is now transmitted via the brace into the dash as you are hearing. Pop the hood and look at the shock mounts - you will see the foam disintegrated around the center shock bolt - I've posted pics from mine showing the failing foam - the bolt should be centered within the foam and you can see it is not along with the cracks and foam bits. This is not as bad as the first time I replaced them as there were chunks of foam just laying around the bolt
There are some members of this forum that have discovered deteriorated upper shock mounts causing this noise emanating from the 'dash' .
Others have tightened the Dash retaining bolts as per the first half of this video from 'tothegarage'. This addresses squeak sounds but worth checking....

Thank you for your response. I just had the upper shock mounts replaced. I didn't do it at the dealership....Trying to save money I went to a family friends shop. I'm taking it back to him in the morning. Do you think he didn't tighten the top bolt enough? It didn't make any noise the first 100 miles but now there is definitely loose somewhere. Hopefully it is something that just needs tightening. I hope.
