Mix Genuine Jaguar Orange Coolant with Dex-Cool?

I need to change out the thermostat on my 2006 XKR. Went to the dealer and bought the genuine thermostat ($75.90) and 5 liters of genuine Jaguar orange coolant ($67.20) Over $150 after tax! That's what I would have paid for parts+labor on a lesser car... but I digress...

I just noticed that since I have the Supercharged engine, my coolant capacity is 11.5 liters. I am a liter short if I want the water-coolant ratio to be 50-50 or better.

I have read just about every one of the coolant threads so far and still not feeling very confident about this: Can I Mix Prestone Dex-Cool Extended Life 5-150 with the Jaguar fluid? Or should I do the 40-mile round trip back to the Jag dealer for the privelege of paying $20 for another liter of the genuine fluid?

One of the interesting things I noticed in another thread - The VSB says the "Coolant Specification" for the orange fluid in my car is "WSS M97B44-D". In this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ifreeze-35643/ SilverXJ correctly points out that this is a Ford specification also. Prestone Dex-Cool Extended Life 5-150 is supposedly compliant with WSS M97B44-D - see Frequently Asked Questions | Learn More | PrestoneŽ

So - is it safe to mix the Prestone Dex-Cool with genuine Jag fluid, or do I have another trip to the Jag Dealer in my future?

Many thanks,

Marcgr

Go on line and take a look at the ingredients and specifications. Do not mix proplyene glycol base with ethylene glycol base...toxicity and chemistry issues.

I believe the V.W. coolant is compatible. It's the orange stuff. Should be alot cheaper.

Dex-cool if fine.

Hi I realize this was a little while back but I noticed a couple of Items. when looking on the same point that the sticker near the coolant reservoir on my 2004 XJ8 I noted "USE ONLY LIFE ENGINE COOLANT REF WSS-M97B44-D COLOURED ORANGE" this in mind I found the Prestone DEX-COOL product was WSS-M97B44-D compatible. so it should be fine. Here is some additional detail: As per Prestone:and the DEX-COOL I noticed this is what they have published: PrestoneŽ Dex-CoolŽ Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant is recommended and formulated for use in all vehicles that require DEX-COOLŽ coolant, as well as all other cars and light duty trucks with aluminum radiators using extended life coolant. This patented formula has a concentrated blend of premium long-lasting inhibitors for extended performance, protecting against temperature extremes and the ravages of rust and corrosion for 5 years or 150,000 miles. DEX-COOL and GM are registered trademarks of General Motors Corporation and are used under license. Q:Does PrestoneŽ Antifreeze/Coolant contain phosphates? A:Some European automobile manufacturers request that a phosphate-free antifreeze be used in their vehicles. This issue is related to the extremely high mineral content of the water in Europe. If you were to mix an antifreeze that contained phosphates with the type of water they have in Europe, it may produce deposits that can settle in the cooling system and promote corrosion. However, in North America we do not have this type of water problem. Typical North American coolants have contained phosphates (which is part of the corrosion inhibitor package) for many years. Therefore, the question of phosphates is a non-issue here in North America. PrestoneŽ Antifreeze/Coolant is completely safe for use in both foreign and domestic vehicles. For those consumers who would feel more comfortable using a phosphate-free antifreeze, our PrestoneŽ Extended Life 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant is phosphate, silicate, and borate free. This coolant uses a special chemistry and technology that extends the life of the corrosion inhibitor package so that it lasts for five years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first), and is safe for all cars and light trucks (old or new). PrestoneŽ Extended Life 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant has been approved by General Motors under their DEX-COOLŽ specifications and is compatible with other DEX-COOLŽ approved coolants. * DEX-COOLŽ is a registered trademark of General Motors Corporation. Hope this helps
