My brakes are urinating - with video!

Just changed my brakes. My guess is I broke the seal when I cleaned the caliper with a wire brush.
Has anyone rebuild the seals on the calipers or have you just purchased new calipers? Let me know your past experience. - |
New caliper seal
Not hard to replace seals. Seals are cheap and available. Time spent though... Would be better to just get rebuilt calipers. |
For my 1999 XK8, the whole caliper unit is USD700 each, whereas the seal kit is only approx. USD60. For this price difference, I would get the seals and give to my local mechanic to do the job as I don't have the tooling to dis/re-assemble and bench test. I would be concerned as brakes are essential safety items.

Hi,
thats weird, are you shure that the hose fitting is tightend up? It is definitly not possible to damage the seal with a wire brush. the seal is inside the piston bore and you can't get there with your brush. Its only possible to damage the dust cap, but if so it would not cause leaking. Fritz |
+1
That looks to be coming from the hose to caliper connection ........? Graham |
