New Brakes - super loud?
 

Just replaced all 4 discs and pads and am left with an ear-piercing squeal at mid-pressure braking, like the sound the school bus or the garbage truck makes when driving through the neighborhood. No sound under light braking. Heavy braking makes the normal slotted disc sound.

Job was done by a Jag specialist so I assume they know what they are doing and they swear everything was lubed and greased as they did it. Their story is that the pads and discs are incompatible...?

Discs: Brake Performance slotted and dimpled
Pads: Hawk Yellows (Performance Ceramic "Luxury and Touring" compound) "Quiet, Clean and quick stopping" according to their website.

I've tried doing a few hard stops to try to bed them in a little better.

Anyone have this combination? Any other ideas?

Assuming the rotors are new as well, sounds like they didn't grease properly or more likely something is misfitted on one or more wheels.

I doubt it is incompatibility with the pads to the rotors. Might have someone else look at it.

I followed the manufactures recommendations when I installed Brembo calipers with BP rotors and pads.

Thanks Bill. I also noticed it only happens when the brakes are hot - no noise when the brakes are cold. I'm going to bet on improper bed-in, and try to bed them in again.

Just need to find a section of road that I can do 8-9 sudden stops from 60MPH to 15MPH in a row!

Hi Marc, I would assume the tech removed the shipping compound some Rotor ( Disc) suppliers use. I have used Hawk Pads on a few vehicles and always very pleased with their performance. As stated, a few hard stops should seat and clean off the rotors if soiled.

Just to let you know that I've been thru 4 sets of these Hawk Ceramic pads and never had any issue with noise at all.

The hotter the system (rotors/pads) the better they work/grip, and the more chances of noise, but as said, never had this with these pads.

Cooking your brakes every so often is not a bad thing. The smell of burning brake pads as your coming down from Pikes Peak is a concern, but on the flat open road it's sort of fun. The reason for this is the resin they use to hold the pad material together may build up as the compound wears down. Doing a few hard near stops gets this resin burned off, leaving the compound to make better connection with the rotor. Let's face it, driving in the city and never using the brakes hard leaves this brakes wanting for more, they were designed to get hot.
Do your car a favor, miss treat it a little!
