New Forum Member 2003 w/ Air Bag Light
Hello folks, just took delivery a 2003 XK8 convertible with 43000 mi. that replaced my wife’s 1999 that threw a timing chain. My problem is the driver side airbag light comes on and no other message is evident. Before I take it to the dealer I would like to exhaust any obvious problems. Can you help.
Thanks
Ed

While the XJ and XK are very similar you might get better responses on the XK board. A MOD will come along sometime and move it.
At the top of the XK forum is a FAQ sticky that has in, more or less alphabetical order most of the frequent issues. You will find a couple of links to air bag problems.
. . . and welcome to the forum.

Suggestion: if it's possible for you or a moderator to change the topic of your post to include the problem you're having, that might draw more help. (Matt?)
This thread maybe has something ...

... provided you don't go too far down the dielectric-grease road (you'll see). I lifted it from the FAQs which always appear in the "Stickys" at the top of the thread list.
And by the way, you look sorta familiar.

title changed And I won't regurgitate the content from that thread I started, but if you don't have the ability to diagnose the SRS system and module, you can just do widespread connector cleanup. I believe the seat belt latch catches alot of drink spills, and I shot a bunch of electronics cleaner down into the latch, pulled/reinserted its connector, along with my inter-seat exercising and under seat module harness work. No lights ever since.

I had the airbag yellow icon on my 02 XJ8 VDP. Independent Jag mechanic (completely trustworthy) couldn't get a code reading on his software, so he didn't charge me anything. Said 3 or 4 things could cause it; if he had the code he could fix it. Dealer charge:$135. "Code B2293 returned, need to order drivers airbag clockspring." I paid for the diagnostics but didn't have them order the clockspring.
MY indedpendent mechanic was on vacation, so I studied the repair procedure, ordered Jag OEM part (LNG6470AA, $145) online and replaced it myself. Conceptually easy but time-consuming for a first-timer. No recurring problem after two months of daily driving.

EAL, hope you don't mind, but since you sent me a message off forum, I'd thought I'd share your note with the others participating in your thread.
Remember, not only is that seat module harness a trouble spot, but also the seatbelt latch.
