New hood struts surprised at the improvement
I just replaced the hood struts, such a surprise improvement I wanted to share. First thing I noticed after installing first side - that one strut holds up the hood! We've had countless conversations about service position and how to safely support the hood while moving to other side once first side disconnected.
Here's a picture of the ones I purchased. Now I'm left wondering 2 things: 1) did these just wear out or is this brand special. Iow when new would one hold up the hood by itself? 2) would replacement of the rear trunk ones make opening easier? My lady always finds it difficult to open. Given the price of these guys I'm probably more interested in #2. Anyone know? John https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...0f94cd46b9.jpg |
Wow for that price it'd be worth it to just do mine! Nice thanks for the heads up!

Gas struts weaken with age
+1 and Thanks for sharing.
Actually in all my cars past and present, these struts do age and become weak and feeble with old age. Replacing them is a 2 min job and the X100 hood struts take a lot of weight. good price you’ve managed to find. Actually I think putting in new ones in the trunk would make it even harder for your wife to open as they’ll be stiff. Maybe worth a shot of WD40 on the push rod to held them slide easier... |

Closing the trunk required more of an effort. |
My new bonnet struts got here today, and I installed them immediately! Lol 😁 it took all of five minutes, gotta love some modern designs lol. I took my left one off first and had to hold my hood up with my shoulder. Then when I took the right one off it stayed up by itself. I guess they definitely needed changed lol

My bonnet has an occasional habit of closing its self, so I will add new struts to list...

Yes, one day it will get me.

They won't ship outside the US :(

I need to do my struts as well. Getting PRET.......TY tired of using a 48-inch wood clamp to hold it up if I'm sitting on the upward incline of my driveway....

These seem well worth the $20 and 5min to do them
|
For that price I couldn't say no. I just ordered mine.
Thanks for the tip. |
I just received and installed my new hood struts.
They cost about $27 for both including shipping and were worth it. The old struts needed both to hold the hood up. The new ones will hold the hood up with only one strut installed. |
