I've been lurking in the background for the past 7 months looking for an XK8 to buy. I finally found one I liked and bought it. It's a 2002 XK8 convertible, Sapphire Blue, with 57,000 miles on it. Reading this forum has already paid dividends by allowing me to fix some minor problems. The previous owner had service records for the last several years showing fixes for some of the known problems (throttle body, thermostat & housing, ABS sensor, green shower). Now I need to concentrate on the transmission service and timing chain tensioners.

Wow, very nice. Great colour combination. Enjoy!

Looks great and sounds like it's come from a careful PO.

Same colour combination and wheels as my last Coupe.

Looks good, the research and waiting for the right car really do pay dividends.

Welcome to the forum and XK ownership, you should have lots of fun, especially with a car that has a known history. The tensioners should be your first priority as the results of not taking care of the changeout can be disastrous. Even though the mileage is relatively low, the car (as well as the plastic in the original tensioners) is 11 or 12 years old and the tensioners can be very brittle. Otherwise, enjoy it, and by the way nice color combo almost as nice as Carnival Red over black!

On a 2002 you should have 3rd gen. metal bodied tensioners. But they are probably still worth inspecting to make sure the plastic shoes are still in good shape.
