northwest burbs of Chicago repair shop?
Hi all,
New XK8 owner looking for a reliable and reasonable independent repair shop in northwest burbs of Chicago. The Closer to McHenry the better.
Bought a 98 XK8 yesterday and found out today that the left front wheel bearing needs to be replaced. Closest dealer wants $585 plus tax. I'm sure an indy would do it for close to half.
Any help finding a good shop is appreciated.

First of all. Congratulations on your purchases of a Jaguar. We need to know.. Convertible or coupe, Color, condition, etc. Sorry you are having problems this early in your ownership experience.
I live out in Geneva, not to far down the road and have had my 2000 XK8 of about 18 months. So far no major problems, just a few small ones. I have used Eurotoys in Elgin, not for repairs, but I rented some tools to replace my tensioners. You will need to look into them soon.

He has a small shop on a farm and seems very knowledgeable. He also seems very busy and has a long wait for service. Not sure how reasonable he is. He may be able to recommend a shop closer to home for you. It is a place to start. I would suggest you do a search in this forum to get an idea of what is involved with the fix. I may help you in searching out a local shop. I think the bearings need to be pressed out. You may want to go to a shop that is familiar with this process.
Good luck and keep us informed.
