not starting

I have a 1998 Jaguar Vanden plas that I have been having issues with. It was running lean and giving a general code of P1000. Well figuring out it was the fuel pump after replacing the MAF sensor, plugs, air filter, and the fuel filter it ran great for about 200 miles. My son drove to get his hair cut and after it would only turn over with no start. I had it towed home and bought another fuel pump and put it in had the same issue turn over but not even trying to fire. Bought another new and better OEM pump installed it same issue. the hose from the pump looked old and very stiff so I ordered a new fuel hose to see if it was possibly this. I put the new hose on tried to start it but is sat for so long that the battery was dead. After jumping the car it ran like a champ again now I was thinking it had something to do with the hose that runs from the pump to the fuel line. I drove it a few places without any issues third day I drove it to work no issues then when going to leave work it would only turn over and not start. I tried to pinch off the return line by the regulator but that also didn't help. The car doesn't throw a fault at all just turns over but wont fire still. Any help would be appreciated.

Wow! Three fuel pumps! First figure out if you have fuel and spark. For fuel, get loaner tool pressure gauge from AutoZone. For spank, crank while spraying started fluid into throttle body.

Food for thought from a technical guide;

Engine Cranks but will not Start

• If the Engine is cranking it means that the ECM is enabled with respect to the immobilizer function. If the immobilizer had failed validation the ECM would not engage the starter. This could be confirmed by reading DTC from the IC and ECM.

• In this case, the fuel pump circuit should be verified. A fuel pump module, which is controlled by the ECM, supplies the fuel pump.

• In all cases of suspected immobilizer non-start issues, the most logical failure modes should be eliminated first.

• Check all relevant supplies and grounds to the KTM, BPM, IC and ECM, check that the starter relay has a permanent 12V supply, check that the relay has a 12V supply and ground across the coil while the ignition is in the crank position.

An XJ8 presumably? If so, you're in the wrong forum - you want the X308 forum. This is for the X100 XK8.
