Oil cooled Radiator on XKR
Does anyone have any issues with high kerbs and speed humps etc. I have a 2003 XKR and am on number 3 radiator.. starting to get expensive. Are there any fixes or suggestions on what I can do (Apart from the obvious) to resolve this very annoying problem.

Best of luck, keep us posted. |
This is the factory mounting on my 2000 XKR: I haven't had a problem hitting things YET.

I dinged mine pretty good the first month or two then bought a new one and mounted it higher as suggested by Paul and have had no issues since. I think mine had dropped a tad and that was just enough to bang it on my drive entry unless I was at a crawl.

Thanks guys, my mounting does not look like that so I am guessing someone did a retro fit on it at some point. Will have to look at the higher mount for it as I keep touching it on kerb's while parking and know it is only a mater of time before it goes again.

Stop sooner :D.

Burnham has the right idea......Don't get close to Kerb's, whatever that is! Here in Texas we don't have Kerb's, Ghostrider.....We have curbs and if you get close to them they will bite the bottom of your Front Bumper and skin all the paint off! We also have what is called, "Speed-Bumps"! Now they will really skin he paint off! Hopefully, you Aussies don't have those yet!

Ghostrider,
The oil cooler on my 03 XK8 was mounted much lower than in Paul's picture and was the lowest/most forward part of the car. Not sure if that's consistent with the XKR but was definitely a problem. After causing one to leak by whacking a parking stop, I moved the cooler up a little by reforming the mounts and forcing myself to pay closer attention (that was the hardest part). The expensive rubber isolater mounts can be found at a lower cost from McMaster-Carr https://www.mcmaster.com/#vibration-...ounts/=176qg5k or perhaps another hardware supplier in your part of the world. Thanks Burnham... I try that one :)

Thanks Stratohammer, mine is like yours defiantly the lowest/most forward part of the car. unfortunately I am not very handy with cars so have to get my mechanic to do any mods so get very expensive. I will look into the rubber mounts and it is not fitted with these.

Interestingly that looks different to my 2001 XKR:- http://casaanduez.com/wp-content/upl...2177662859.jpg |

This is my 2003 XKR. The oil cooler and lines were replaced by the dealer a few months ago, so I suspect t this is the official mounting (?).
Sorry pics are outside at night. No idea why upside down. |
