my 2005 xk8, man 3/04 does have an oil cooler

my aftermarket display (zrays type) 'failed' in short time but I pulled it apart and repaired a broken trace strip on the circuit board...the crack location was very close the the area where one would plug in the cable. I assume the board flexes a little too much and that led to the crack.

good detective work !

perhaps that’s why mine has worked very well; I’ve only plugged it in once, when first installing it. And it’s been in operation ever since.

It would be very helpful if one of you men without an oil cooler could monitor your oil temperature with specifics such as out side temp, in town, and on the road for comparison.

thanks
Jack

when doing so, be sure to note engine coolant temperature as well. On my 2002 4.0 L XKR, the oil temperature is always a very close 16-20 F higher than than the oil temperature when the engine is fully warmed up.

ie, when the engine coolant temp is 190 F, the engine oil temp will be somewhere between 205-210 F. Likewise, a coolant temp of 210 F will correspond to an oil temperature very close to 230 F.

Also, Engine temp always seems to decrease slightly when vehicle speed is over 75-80 mph. I take this to mean the air intake for the radiator would benefit from being larger and let in more air at lower speeds.

It will need to be a MY99 or newer car. AJ26 didn't get an oil temp. sensor, so we live in blissful ignorance...

Sounds like me.

Early this week we drove to the top of the mountain again at a quick pace. Going from aprox. 1400 ft too 2900 ft. 60 deg F day.
After driving close to 10 miles to foot of mountain the oil temp was 180 degrees F.
At the top of mt. the oil temp was 208.4 water coolant temp=197.6
after coming back down the oil temp was 185 coolant=194
Went to town for a couple laps and oil temp went to 204.8 coolant199.4.
I think zray's temp goes up pretty quick ideling and mine seem to go up in town traffic as he said.
It does seem the XKR heats the oil more quickly.
I've got an oil temp monitor on the way so I don't ruin my engine as spring and summer sets in.
