Radiator, once faithful now geysers like “old faithful”

My raidiator in the 2002 XKR needs replacement. The passenger side plastic tank has finally decided 23 years and 188,900 miles is enough.

I’m seeing just one part number for both the 2002 XK8 and 2002 XKR for the Nissans product mentioned numerous times on the forum:
“… Nissens 66701 Radiator, engine cooling…”

However, SNG Barratt has the XK8 listed as a :Radiator Assembly Part #: MJB4190AF

And the XKR listed with a different part number: For XKR: Radiator Assembly
Part # MJB4190BC

can anyone help me out with this ?

Are the 2002 XKR and XK8 using the same radiator, or not ? Are there any internal capacity differences between the two ?

Will the Nissens 66701 really be a drop in fit for a XKR ?

Who has put one of the Nissrns in an XKR ?

are there other choices I should be looking at (besides the genuine Jaguar part)

thanks

As I recall from browsing various threads, there seems to be some debate on whether the Nissens is an OEM equivalent for the XKR - talk of running temperatures being higher than the OEM. Whereas for the XK8 there seems to be general consensus that Nissens is fine (I'm in the process of putting one in my XK8 since the plastic end similarly cracked at the top on passenger side and started leaking recently). However, there seems to be nothing definitive on what the OEM vs Nissens design differences might be that I have found - opinions vary.

There is an all aluminum/aluminium XKR radiator available from Radtech Cooling in the UK - nice to lose the plastic but not exactly cheap...a custom/bespoke shop might be able to compete at that price if one can be found

Thank you for the reply. I too have been reading all the pertinent posts, over and over until I’m cross eyed and still can’t find some concrete actionable data.

this is my daily driver and I’m hoping to remove and replace in one operation.

I fear I’m going to get the old one out and see the new one has slight or significant differences.

I’ve been eyeing this one out for a while. I communicated once with a company representative and he affirms that their Radtec aluminum radiator has a higher coolant capacity and is more efficient than the stock radiator.

Turns out the only difference between the Nissen/OEM-brand for the XK8 and XKR are two brass fittings that step-down the transmission line connections. I replaced the radiator on my now sold 2001 XK8. Thought they had sent me the wrong unit and received another before I returned the first one sent. The fittings (which just screw in) were the only difference.

Wish I had known that before I put back in the old radiator and had to do the job twice. I could have just switched fittings between my leaking unit and the first one sent. Big price difference at the time from Parts Geek.

FWIW, PartsLink24 shows PN MJB4190BB for cars up to VIN A11050 and BC from VIN A11051 and up.

This pix on the site are just drawings, with insufficient detail to know what the physical differences are.

yeah, I’m needing the MJB4190BC .

there are several sellers on eBay right now with fully aluminum radiators for the XKR’s, including aluminum side tanks. I think their photos are just a generic photo representation. Will find out Monday if they are a genuine “drop-in”, or if they require some re-engineering. The prices are pretty low, and competitive with the Nissans and others having the accursed plastic side tanks.

I've installed some aftermarket all-aluminum radiators on some BMWs and they tended not to fit all that well. I will say that I installed a Nissen on my XK8 and it dropped right in. The only glitch is the vent at the top left side facing the engine. Some XK8s have a pipe that goes to the overflow, some don't. I had to get something to plug that hole. Other than that, it was a drop-in.
