P0568 P0000 No Cruise Engine warning
 

Hi All.
This 1997 coupe is at 160,000 km but a dry garaged, nice weather creampuff.
One niggling problem is that the cruise quit and the yellow engine light pops up on the dash. I can clear the message out but it still pops up next start and do not like the little yellow warning light.
Brake switch is fine. Console button is fine. Car runs perfect. (yes I tested & understand the N/O and N/C separate circuits of the brake switch)
I've also checked connectors all the way to the ECM and they are good.
On initial key on and if the cruise switch on the console is in the on position, the LED indicator on the cruise button comes on for about 3 seconds and then disappears.
About 6 months before this started I had the ECM refurbished and it worked/works flawlessly since.
I'm to the point of sending the ECM out again to be checked in the off season as I am to the point of suspecting it is an internal ECM issue.
Steering column switch/wiring is the only thing I have not tore deep into.
Thoughts & suggestions welcome.

Have you read the OBDII codes?

The P0568 DTC seems to indicate a problem in the steering wheel area under the air bag. The Clock spring and other switches are in there. There is also a Steering Angle Sensor that reads a reluctor or slotted wheel to indicate where the car is heading. Not too difficult and the R&R air bag and other items are in a post we did earlier. Best not to try a Phillips Screwdriver. Those are Posi Drive screws.

Possible Causes
Cruise control switches internal steering wheel open circuit
Steering wheel cassette reel open circuit or
high resistance
Cassette reel to ECM circuit (ACCEL / DECEL)
open circuit or high resistance
ACCEL / DECEL switch failure

Steering wheel & switches may have to wait until fall lay-up.
I'll see what's involved & decide when to go at it.

My 97 had the same issue. The ground wire in the wheel was broken on the left side where it is common with the sound system controls.

This car had all the classic miscues to rectify when I got it 14 years ago. Maybe this is another.

Although I also tested & understand the N/O and N/C separate circuits of the brake switch, at my wits end, a replaced the 2 mircroswitches with more robust ones (sorry I did not record the brand/specs) This was in 2019 and mysteriously, The brake unit still works flawlessly today. Maybe someone has info for a couple of upgrade switches.

I Got around to a full steering wheel diagnosis this weekend, but all is perfect.
I even took apart the switch cluster and confirmed microswitches and resistor values.
I do appreciate the lead, but I am now convinced it is likely internal to the ECM ground for this function.
Likely just a bad internal ECM solder connection from pin to board.
The ECM was reconditioned several years before this issue, so I do know that the leaking resistor issue has been addressed.
May send it out again this winter.

The 'cancellation module' is involved in the circuit.
Have you verified continuity of the entire circuit steering wheel to the ECM?
