Passenger seat adjustments 2003 XK8

The seat back and head rest adjustments do not work. I hear the motor straining but no seat or headrest movement. Solutions?
Approx 75,000 miles

Those are 2 separate issues. For the seat, swap driver and passenger control modules and see if the problem "moves" with the modules. If so, the module at fault is typically repaired. There are forum members doing this (for a fee). Quick and painless. Module is under the front edge of the seat, 2 bolts, 2+ connectors.

For the headrest, the cable and sleeve and mismatched, and the cable has to be replaced with a longer one, or the sleeve has to be shortened.

These 2 things are issues pretty much ALL of our cars already or will have over their lifetime. There are LOTS of posts. Search is your friend.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Thanks. I had searched this forum for seat adjustment not work , and JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource but no hits. What search terms do you recommend.

If you hear the motor it's likely not the module, maybe time to pull the seat and have a look.
For the headrests try here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rest-fix-9622/ and here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...est-faq-69635/

Your search skills need to be honed.
TSBs are all on Gus's site. (I sent him a bunch)

Info for you.

Update- I removed the passenger seat module. Top cover where attached to bolts is cracked. Board inside is clean. No signs of cracks. Glued cracks and used packing tape to support cracked area. See photo 1. With NO module connected right control (photo 2) moves seat forward and back and middle control does not move seat back but makes sound. With Module connected left control tries to move head rest and makes sound but it does not move. Does this mean the module is ok but gears are stuck? Also, dealer says head rest cables need adjustment $1,800.00 US

The module under the driver's seat is attached with plastic tie. I'd like to do this the passenger module but don't know how to remove seat for access to frame and module. Recommendations?

The plastic covers for these modules are (were?) available from Jaguar for cheap. About $5 EA.

Left control is for lumbar support. It involves inflating/deflating a bag with air.

The center button does the seat back as well as the headrest I believe. The right control does forward/back as well as up and down for the seat bottom.

Have you tried swapping the modules?

Bob, thanks for the TSB on seat travel adjustments and voltage readings. I bet the steering wheel travel operates under similar logic. Sure wish there was an official document on that part of the memory. It might have answered many questions about tilt and telescope. Thanks again.

No I have not switched modules. I can't get my hands behind the module to disconnect.
Another post said "If you hear the motor it's likely not the module"
I have power to the the passenger seat motors. They don't move the seat parts and make a straining sound. Maybe gears instead of control module?

Update- These symptoms seem to indicate it is not the module or seat position or fuses. Is the likely explanation a stuck motor? If so can the motor be operated manually to move seat back? It is stuck in a leaning forward position so can't sit in the passenger seat.for 2003 XK8 coupe: 76000 mi
passenger seat back stuck leaning forward- ok
switch moves seat forward and back no effect therefore no problem with wiring under seat or switch
No sound when using seat back switch
Loosened plug on back of seat module resulted in sound when using switch to adjust seat back but no movement.
Therefore module working.
Does this mean problem is control module is activating the relay and motor is jammed.

Yes more than likely there is something wrapped up in one of the worm gears. Removing the seat will probably expose the culprit.

Here is what it looks like underneath. Note the crud on the ends of the worm gears. They will pick up anything that gets shoved under the seat.
