I purchased a used set of plastic engine covers on ebay as mine were cracked. In trying to place them on the engine the drivers side (left) has longer tabs on the back than my originals. The parts code is #39022 BB on both. Mine is a 4.0 from '99. Before I take a cut off tool and cut the tabs, did Jag make a change in the engine cover mounts? The tab I am referring to is just a set off from the engine.
Any known issues with this solution?

I don't think your tabs are longer. The old cover probably has the end of the tab broken off. Look in the hole where the tab goes into and see if there is a plastic part in there (it should look like an "X". Just push the old plastic part through and you should be good to go.
