Auctions are a tricky thing. The upcoming Mecum auction in Kissimmee has an XK8 coming up on a Tuesday, probably the worst day of the auction. Also two XKs '08 and '10 on the first weekend. All of these could be bargains.
There is a Series 1 XKE on Saturday January 14th. That's premier day, serious competition for that one.
Location and Day placement can really effect the outcome.

I think the HT versions of the XK8 are sorta the forgotten car of this model run. I think it may be setting up as a collector car of the future that will bring the same prices as the verts where usually that is not the case.
If I got another xk8 I would think long and hard about a HT. Still all the same issues minus the Convert stuff though. ha ha ha

The problem here is that we are over valuing our cars, they are worth what ever someone will pay, in this case $5000. I've seen loads of adverts trying to sell XK8's at over inflated prices but we only see the ticket price and not what they actually sell for. You all need to realise that at the moment, XK8's are the car everyone likes but nobody wants (or wants to pay for) It may stay like that that or it may reverse, who knows?

There are probably over 100 people on this website that would write a check today for this car at over $5000. I am one of those people.
I don't think a car rolling across the blocks at a crap auction in front of 50 people is a true example of a car's worth.

Maybe you would, maybe I would but we are enthusiasts and the problem is that if you are only relying on die hard enthusiasts to preserve a cars value , it will generally be worth peanuts. As I've said, a car is only worth what someone will pay for it. I regularly see cars for sale, not too dissimilar to mine for sale at £12,000. I paid £3,000 for mine and it was on sale originally for 4k and took 6 months to sell. The one at 12k has been on sale for over 9 months. Like I said time and time again, there are very few people who actually want to buy these cars, hence the low value. We would all love for them to become real classics and go up in value, but as long as the scrapyards crush them rather than store them, they are nothing but an old car. Just keep on dreaming, maybe one day.

$5,000 or $25,000, when I get into mine, it still feels and drives like the $90,000 Jaguar it was when it was new. There is nothing that will take away from that. Paid off, so every smiling mile is a joy, and I am completely unconcerned over the resale value. I have gotten more than what I paid for it, out of it, in pure driving pleasure.
