Proper Compression Readings...

Hey guys,

I am acquiring a 1998 XK8 needing engine replacement.

I'd like to have a compression test done on any engine I purchase to swap in, but what are the correct or acceptable compression readings for the 4.0?

BTW, I'm not very mechanically inclined, what is the process or procedure for taking engine compression readings from an engine removed from a vehicle?? How about when it's in??

Thanks!

You can take a vaccum test and get a good test plus check the valves in 5 minutes.

Sadly, I think your in the wrong forum. This is for '07 and newer, so hard data is not anything I can offer.

I recommend you read this artical and do a leak-down test rather than a compression test.
