cigarette lighter cover wont stay closed
I have a 1998 XK8. The small cover that closes over the cigarette lighter in the center console wont stay closed. Any suggestions on how to repair this? Also, I have slightly over 54000 miles w/ no problems so far. Is it time to have the timing chain tensioners checked?

I see you're shotgunning the xk8 section. Please don't forget to drop by the New Member Area and introduce yourself and tell us about the car.
I can't help you on the ashtray cover, but search around in the threads, there may be some assistance somewhere in here. As for your tensioners, most will agree that it's not if, but when the guide(s) will break, and depending on when it happens, could be little, could be alot of damage. If you can afford it, do the preventative maintenance whenever you can. It'll be worth it in the long run. |
Any indication that they may have been changed previously?
If not you most likely have the first generation (without springs) tensioners. I would suggest that you are well beyond time to replace them. My '02 with 46k miles had a cracked tensioner body. |
Thanks for that. Didn't "shotgun" on purpose. Edited original post and both have continued to show up.

no problem quak. The forum is here for moral support as you go thru your tensioner replacement. There's lots of threads on the subject, even pics to show you what your looking for if your more of the DIY type. Good luck!
