Radio Failure

Yesterday my radio in my 2000 XK8 just quit working. Strange that a radio would fail in a Jaguar. The antenna goes up fine. It will play a CD. But when switching to AM/FM there is nothing in the display and no sound. I would not think that it would be the antenna, would it? Wouldn't the radio have some function even without the antenna. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I will start by saying I don't use my radio at all, that said I believe there are a number of 'modes' the radio can be in. I'd suggest finding your MY owners manual (stickies) and read through all the various radio settings to see if something is amiss.. maybe you accidentally hit a button and switched modes

Radio dead problem

Had the same problem but thanks to a kind member's suggestion, checked the F9 and F12 fuses in the Passenger facia box. Both fuses checked good when tested for continuity but the F12 fuse showed no voltage. Pulled it out and sprayed in some contact cleaner into the fuse holder. As I pushed the fises back in, the radio and display came back to life. Worth a try!

Hi Jetjock,

Could you tell me where exactly that fuse box is located. i would appreciate it very much.

By the way. Which jets?

Open the passenger door and remove the panel at the end of the dashboard, between the door and the dash.

Radio snag

Hi. The fellow that gave you advice, WhiteXKR is the same member that helped me out. He is very knowledgeable and patient too! In answer to your question re aircraft flown, started out in DC3s and flew mostly Corporate my whole career. Transitioned to jets in 1980 and typed on Hawker 700 and 800, Astra Spx, Gulfstream II, III and IV. Retired to safety consulting 6 years ago and fully retired a year ago.

Hi Larry,

Yes White XKR is a good guy and has given me goon info in the past.

Sounds like you have had a very interesting career. My interest has been in just about every field of aviation there is as an aeronautical engineer. Started out the three summers during college as an engineering aide at Edwards AFB. First supersonic flight was the last summer of 1959 in an F-106B. Worked there 10 years after graduation on T-38, B-26K, X-21, B-58 & Sr71. Boeing after that and retired early 25 years ago. Then came the Me262 replicas. Spare time build my Long EZ designed by my very good friend Burt Rutan. Flying that still after 20 years. Aviation and cars is the best life there is.

Radio problems

[QUOTE=EZDriver;1253443]Yesterday my radio in my 2000 XK8 just quit working. Strange that a radio would fail in a Jaguar. .........

I have an Alpine radio in my 2004 XK8( 44K miles) and the radio will not accept my code. It is the proper code for the radio serial #. I have to punch in the code 3 times before it will acknowledge. Screen then says please wait
BUT even after an hour or so the radio will not function, and the screen goes blank again.
I live in northern NY and have been unable to connect with a shop that is
famliar with my radio. ANY SUGGESTIONS ?:icon_screwy:

Can't help too much but you might contact jaguar and give them you vin, they may provide the radio code, it's very rare a US car needs the code as most were shipped without this feature, not sure of Canada (if the car came over the border). Also search this forum as others have had similar problems (mostly over seas) you might find some answers

On a whim you might try a hard reset, Remove positive battery cable from battery and touch the end to the negative term for 10 secs then reconnect, you will need to reset the windows and then try entering the code

I absolutely can not believe it. If someone had bet me a thousand dollars that doing the fuse thing would solve the problem I would have taken it. And....LOST. I did just what you did with both F9 and F12 and the radio started working again. If WhiteXKR is on line thanks to him and you Larry. Very thoughtful of both of you supporting the forum like this.

Thanks again
