Rear view mirror fell off windshield
The rear view mirror on my 2003 XK8 convertible has fallen completely off the windshield. Jaguar says they are not able to reattach it and says I will need to order an entirely new windshield (still waiting on price). Does anyone have any advice? |
Have you tried super glue?, Either that or some VHB (very high bond) tape from 3m |
Never use a dealer. Their idea of a fix is replace, an expensive one at that.
Pop along to your nearest windshield replacement shop. Have word and I bet they have a simple, cheap solution. Probably in the form of a 1 inch square sticky tab. If you think about it when a windscreen gets smashed they have to rehang the mirrors, using the tape I mentioned earlier. Let us know how you get on wont you? Update. Just looked them up on flebay for you. I know this is the UK site, where I am, but I am sure the ones in the US have them listed too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311.R4.TR 12.TRC2.A0.H1.Xinterior+mirror+.TRS0&_nkw=interior +mirror+sticky+pads&_sacat=0 |
Thanks! I’ll give that a shot and will let you know |
Super Glue 141041-12 Automotive Rear View Mirror Adhesive$US8.49 from AmazonCheers, Stu |
Tried the Windshield Shop and a couple of "Mirror Glues" from Auto Zone. They would last a couple of weeks and mirror would fall off again. Someone on the forum suggested Gorilla Glue. Tried that. Mirror is holding firm 14 Months later.

Mine fell off too, glued it back on, hasn't budged in two years+.

Hi Bob
What type of gorilla glue did you use? I have the same problem. Super glue and the kits you buy don't work as there's actually a raised rim on the mounting button so only the top edge of that rim actually contacts the glass... Seems nuts! Tiny bonding area unless you build up the area under the rim with a thick viscous type of glue. Anybody else figured this out? Cheers Jeff |
The orginal. Mirror is still attached.
|
The mirror on my '03 XK8 also fell off - thoroughly scraped and cleaned original adhesive off all surfaces and used the Gorilla super glue. 2+ years and still good.
|
Thanks Guys. Used gorilla premium glue as we can't get the original anymore. Seems fine at this stage. Hopefully it'll last. Cheers Jeff
