Rear wheel bearing inner vs outer seal

Guys this one always kicks my butt. Let me bounce it off you, make sure I'm heading down the easiest path.

There are 2 rear bearing seals inner and outer for each wheel. They are nearly identical but seal 1 has a larger diameter than the other.

I admit I get confused and neither is in its factory package any longer. You'd think it'd be obvious by just looking. Its not. The smaller seal could fit on either side! The larger one will require some motivation, but I want to be sure I'm fitting into the correct side.

I can't figure where the larger one should go. If I put it in the outer position (side nearest the car next to you), the hub doesn't seem to fully insert. If I put it in the inner position (side facing the diffetential) its larger than the hole in the carrier, I wonder if it can be forced in to it.

Maybe one of you guys remembers this, I hope its an obvious answer. Thank you!

John

Jon,
Would measuring the ID & OD of each seal help to determine which is which?

FWIW (probably not much), the IDs look different on JEPC.
