Recommended Oil

I feel stupid, but what is the recommended oil weight for a 2001 XK8? I think it is 5w30. Is that correct? They seem to do a good job of not telling you this information in the owners manual.

That's the correct weight.

Thanks. I am going to try to change the oil myself. I can't believe that it take 9 quarts.

As for the type of oil, is synthetic required or optional? I haven't changed the oil yet in mine yet (new to me), but run Mobil 1 in my other vehicle.

There was a TSB issued saying 5-40w is recommended for moderate temps and 10-50w for extreme warm climates. New Jaguars bound for the Mexican market during those years came with 10-50 for example.

If you're going to run Mobil 1, I recommend 5-40w due to its shearing properties.
