Redex- any good for emission reduction?

Thinking back to the episode of Wheeler dealers, where the XK8 was offered as a prize and underwent the engine decarboning treatment, i'm wondering if Redex has any benefit to emissions.

I got some of the fuel injector cleaner that goes in the fuel tank, is it worth putting it in?

Has anyone used it with positive results?

Back in the 70s I used to use it as a cleaner squirted straight into the Carb intakes.

Caused great clouds of white smoke.

Don't know if it did any good, but it smells great. :)

I can't see an XK8 with good Cats having any problems with emissions testing all things being normal.

Or are you trying to get them even lower than required?

No, but i wondered why the XK8 on wheeler dealers would have failed despite it apparently running ok.

Maybe the Cats on that car were bunged up, and the chemical clean cleared them out?

My XJR runs perfectly but always struggles to pass the emissions part of the MOT (usualy needs an Italian tune up and a couple of bottles of redex to scrape through).

I saw the wheelerdealers programme with the xk8 and thought that it would be worth a look..
So due my MOT today and had located a place that could do the terraclean 40 miles away. Put the car through the MOT first and emissions failed with HC>3% and lambda fail.

Did the terraclean and re-did the emissions : HC<1% and lambda pass. So the terraclean looks to have cleaned something up so quite happy to have had it done - shame the car failed on 3-4 other things (handbrake, couple of balljoints and a brake pipe).

Had the Terraclean done on my A6..........No absolute definitive results to report as I hadn't failed an MOT.

This was done as a preventative measure in conjunction with a good clean up beforehand of my EGR.

The car certainly seemed more responsive / eager at 98k miles and fuel efficiency seems to have improved a little too.
Cost me around £70 iirc and peace of mind for me

According to Edd, the Terraclean is by far the most effective way of cleaning the engine internals and lowering emissions, short of tearing it all apart, and i'd like to get that done at some stage.

I know Redex, or any other additive, won't be as effective, but if the emissions were borderline pass/fail, i wondered if adding a shot may tip the balance.

The only reason not to would be if anyone had experienced any deterioration or detrimental effects in any areas, such as pinking, poorer fuel consumption etc.

Since i'd bought some, i was just throwing the subject of Redex out there to see if anyone could give me a reason either to, or not to, stick it in :)
